Music is the universal language. It puts into tones and moods what no words can ever express, and forces us to feel, think, breathe, and dance. Drift has always been particularly good at crafting timely and pertinent messages that speak clearly over the drones of voices. On his latest outing for our Thema Digital Series entitled, “Rinse. Redeem. Repeat”, he taps into the mind of today and tomorrow. Tracks like “Chinadollz” are seeped with texture and purpose, placing back alley vibraphones under a dim light and examining the core of the human spirit with spoken word. Repurposing the voice as a musical mechanism seems to be a distinct theme, with tracks like “Holger” and “Reaching Into The Darkness” both providing strange yet inviting takes on the voice as a feeling. Then there are moments like “Blasting The Doe” and “The Brook”, which lay down rhythms like bricks for a foundation of exploration. All in all Drift continues to show his ear for the unordinary is developing into something simply beyond our knowledge.
